I took my dog to the local park and didn't know that if she chased balls on concrete floor she would rip her paw skin and so it happened. I noticed that she was walking funny, when she layed down after we got home I was touching her paws and noticed that one of her paws in the front right skin came off . And then i found another paw (the main big paw) on the back right with loose paw skin.
So far I applied neosporin on it, bandaged it with dry sterilized guaze, and then band aided with fabric tape.
Then put a clean sock around her front right foot and back left foot. She is sleeping in her bed right now and does not look like she is in discomfort.
Is what I have done so far okay for her? Should i take her to the vet? What should I watch for? Can she still walk on it right now ? HOw long will it take before she will have new paw skin growing back?
HELP! My dog ripped her paw skin?
good job on doggy first aid, it sounds like you did the right thing to help her stay comfortable and prevent infection. Dogs are incredibly resiliant but I would suggest taking her to the vet anyway just to be on the safe side. The vet will know more about treating her and can determine if its more serious or just a minor boo boo. Look for signs of pain and infection such as pus, ooozing and excessive bleeding. Keep her paws clean. Keep her hydrated. she should probably just rest over the next few days.

Take her to the Vet now. Worry about the cost later. Get on on line pay day loan if you have to. Good luck to your baby.
Reply:I recommend you see the vet in order for him/her to give you a full explanation of what to do and when it will heal and everything else so you won't stay unsure and not be able to take care of the dog fully. Make sure though that the gauze is not tight around the foot in order to allow circulation, otherwise the leg can grow big and clot. It's a dangerous thing that can happen so make sure it's not tight or loose. Don't let your dog a lot walk for a day or two to allow the skin to go back into position otherwise if your dog walks around the skin will move around and might even come off again.
Keep the cusioning in place to ease any discomfort that might be experienced when the dog walks. But do see a vet.
Reply:I do not know where you live but if you have a walmart near by then you could buy this salve
Bag Balm in a green can looks like vasoline peferct for the injury your dog has sustained i use it on horses, dogs, cat, and even myself if the cut is real bad. clean it put the bag balm on it and wrap in a sock you want it to breath but not get dirty. it should start to heal in a few days and depending on how deep will depend on how long it takes. your dog can walk on it but i would suggest only on carpet and grass not stones or concret and you can buy the bag balm at a feed store to ... make sure there is nothing in the foot first like glass and such for that will cause and invection ......
Reply:this happened to mu dogs front right paw when i was running her. it took a big chunk off and it was nasty looking. i didn't take her to the vet but it started healing right away and didn't give her any trouble. i think this happens because there paws are dried and cracked, but if it doesn't get better or if it seems like its bothering her take it to the vet, but i dont think you'll have any probs
Reply:Please take her to the vet. My dog had ripped off his paw and had stitches. The paws don't heel very fast but they do. My dog was walking with bandaged for about 4 week before the vet took it of. The paw heeled very nice. They just take a little longer to heal but they do. Take her to the vet PLEASE
