New Tattoo = Flaking Skin......?

I had a pretty big tattoo done on my lower back 3 days ago.

It has a little scabs al over it and is beginning to heal quite nicely. I have been putting moisturiser on 3 or 4 times a day to stop it from drying out, and now thin layers of skin have started peeling. I know that the scabbing is normal, but I just wondered if it should be flaking like this.....?

Im sure there is nothing wrong and it's pretty normal.. I just wanted to be sure.

Please don't answer if you don't know what you're talking about. [=

Shedding flakey bits of skin is part a normal part of the healing proess, just don't be tempted to pick or scratch it.

I would advise against a soak in the bath until the area has completely healed as this can ruin the end result so it just isn't worth it. Showers should also be brisk.

What sort of cream are you using, because standard moisturiser with scent in is not ideal and you should also avoid Aloe Vera based products.

I always alternate with Tattoo Goo and Bepanthen - nappy rash ointment.

Yea I got a tat and it hurt like hell! but yea mines did the same and I used the ointment and it got better! your better than me! I was scared to scub it in the shower lol your fine... just make sure you keep moisture
Reply:You're fine don't worry. Matter of fact your tat will soon probably look all dull. Normal too.
Reply:nothing out of the ordinary dont worry. you should wait about a week before taking a bath or going swimming
Reply:Peeling IS normal fairycake. It's kinda like a sunburn. The outer layer of skin has been shredded by the needles and is going to peel off. Because it is stained with ink it's going to look like you are losing ink. Relax..... the tattoo ink is embedded under the skin and isn't going anywhere. Keep using the ointment your artist recommended and don't listen to people who are telling you to use petroleum jelly (Vaseline), diaper rash medicine (A%26amp;D) or hemorrhoid cream (Preparation H).

Good luck

Reply:That is pretty normal. Don't worry too much. Just keep stuff line a%26amp;d ointment on it. I would give it about a week until you take a bath just to be on the safe side. You will be ok. Also, after a week, switch to an unscented lotion. Those are my suggestions.
